Why Sheffield Wednesday's win over Wycombe 'meant a lot more' to star man Kadeem Harris

For Kadeem Harris, Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over Wycombe Wanderers arguably meant more to him than many other wins he’s been involved in during his time at Hillsborough.

The 27-year-old wing back was the star man on an evening which saw him set up Jordan Rhodes for the opening goal, have a hand in Adam Reach’s decisive second half strike and give Chairboys defender Jordan Obita the runaround to help the Owls climb out of the Championship relegation zone.

But the win was extra special for Harris – who has come to life recently in Wednesday’s mini-revival under caretaker manager Neil Thompson – because he was handed his professional debut by Wycombe as a teenager in 2010 and went on to make 26 appearances for the club before moving to Cardiff City in January 2012.

And as he told The Star after his man-of-the-match display, the result last night made amends for the Owls’ disappointing 1-0 defeat to his former club at Adams Park in October.

“It’s where I was for years, where I started my career and where I was given the chance to make my debut,” he said.

"The club holds a special place in my heart, and it was good to see a couple of the boys that I played with back in the day.

“It was great today. It was great at the start of the season, but we didn’t get the result I wanted. So it meant a lot more today.”

Wednesday’s fifth win on the bounce at Hillsborough – the club’s best sequence of results on home territory for almost 10 years – ended in a blizzard with the pitch completely blanketed in snow, a challenge Harris says he hasn’t faced before during his career.

"I don’t think I’ve played in the snow before, I think it was the first time,” he said. “I was struggling to see the ball at times – but if it snows and we can win like that, then I don’t mind it snowing every week.”
