Connor Wickham and Josh Windass arrived on loan from Crystal Palace and Wigan respectively on Friday’s deadline day, joining Parma-owned fellow new boy loanee Alessio Da Cruz in the first team ranks.

But the departures of young defenders Jordan Thorniley and Ashley Baker – to Blackpool and Newport County – were the only outgoings of a busy window for the club.

“There were enquiries about some of the players, but you leave that to the club,” Monk said.

“If they deem that sufficient or that it warrants [consideration], that’s for the club to decide.

“I didn’t go into the ins and outs of it, but the club felt that enquiries that we did have didn’t suit what the club wanted.

“That’s all I can say, really, about that side of things.”

It had been suggested that Windass’ move would see Owls forward Jordan Rhodes move the other way after Wigan had earlier launched a bid that was reportedly dismissed by the Hillsborough hierarchy early in the window.

Several first team players are out of contract in the summer and Monk has spoken of the need for changes to the squad going forward.

Goalkeeper Cameron Dawson has recently signed a new deal at the club and The Star understands Morgan Fox is in negotiations.

It is not known which players were the subject of approaches.
