Why Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk is unconcerned about team's slump in form

The Owls have dropped to 10th in the Championship, four points adrift of the play-off positions, after a five-match winless run.

Their midweek draw with Monk's old club Birmingham City means Wednesday have picked up just 10 points from the last 27 on offer.

Monk, who said he had no regrets about his controversial pre-match comments regarding his Blues managerial counterpart Pep Clotet, told The Star: "I think we have been very unfortunate in the last four or five games with some of those chances that haven't gone in.

“I have a really good group of players and their attitude is there. They want to score those goals and it is not quite where we need it to be at this moment but we are working hard to try and rectify that."

Next up for Wednesday is a televised trip to 17th-placed Charlton Athletic this Saturday lunchtime.

"Of course, I want to be winning," said Monk, who will be without the services of Julian Börner due to suspension when they head to The Valley. "We are here to win.

"We are still in a good, healthy position. There is still plenty of football to be played and I have complete belief in these players.

"With a bit more composure and luck in moments, we would have won games in the last five matches. We could have probably won 20 games with the chances we have had but we have to keep going.

"We know that won't last forever. I know I have said that before but that's the truth.

"If we continue to create that amount of good chances, we know with that little more composure that those chances will start to go for us.

"Results have not gone for us and we have to get that right as soon as possible but the players are working incredibly hard."
