Why Sheffield Wednesday are paying no attention to Derby County's dreadful away form

Derby County have won just twice away from home this season and one of those was on the opening day against Huddersfield Town.

Nailed on home win for Sheffield Wednesday today, then?

That’s not how Garry Monk is seeing it anyway.

The Owls boss has been around the Championship long enough to know that you would be hard pushed to be able to call any game in the division before it kicks off and that stance remains as the Rams head to South Yorkshire.

A team tipped for the play-offs more often than not, Derby have disappointed this term under Phillip Cocu and are currently 15th in the table, three points behind Wednesday.

Despite coming off the back of two decent displays in a week in drawing with in-form Birmingham City and overcoming a tough test in dramatic fashion against Charlton, Monk is remaining cautious as Wayne Rooney and co. head for Hillsborough.

“I don't think there is ever a good time to play a team in the Championship,” said Monk. “Tell me how many results you've predicted this season. It wouldn't be many, would it?

“We don’t look at it like that, you look at the as they are, they are a high quality squad.

“For sure they are going to cause us problems, we have to be ready for that but we also know we are playing with the type of standard we have in the last two games, with the attitude we have and the quality we have shown we know we can cause them problems.”
