Why Sheffield Wednesday are not getting carried away after promising start to season

Henrik Pedersen is not getting carried away with Sheffield Wednesday’s encouraging start to the season.
The Owls are top of League One after the first six games of the campaign, a position many did not expect after building a whole new squad over the summer. Although performances have not been perfect, they have perhaps gelled better than some had predicted after signing 18 new players.
However, below-par second-halves against Bradford City and Wigan Athletic, alongside other moments in other games, means Pedersen is keeping his feet on the floor.
He told The Star: “We are still in the beginning and we have so many things to improve. We really need to have focus and how we can train our relation, how we can train our connection, so we got better positions, better movement, and of course more verticality, more speed. I think in some of the other games the balance between controlling the game, having many passes, and really waiting until they open up, has been good. Then is when we have the chance to really speed up the game.”
Wednesday now have a free week to prepare for Saturday’s visit of Stockport County, , who lost the League One play-off final to Bolton Wanderers at Wembley last season. This term they have won three and lost three, including being edged out by Leicester City in a seven-goal thriller last weekend. The hatters, now managed by Jimmy McNulty, have won two out of three on the road, including impressive 3-0 and 4-0 victories at Plymouth Argyle and Wigan Athletic respectively.
Pedersen added: “We have this week here, we have a recovery session for a lot of players. We have played a lot, the players who played a little bit less had Tuesday, Wednesday, and now we have a week where we can hopefully bring all players into more training session, so we can bring even more in for how we want to be in the future, and especially in the offensive.”
