Massimo Luongo needs to tread carefully for the next few games if he’s to avoid becoming the latest Sheffield Wednesday player to pick up a suspension.

The Owls have already had Joost van Aken, Tom Lees and Kadeem Harris serve suspensions over the course of the campaign so far, while Josh Windass – the most recent player to be sent off – will be back available to face Norwich City.

On top of that, Luongo – a key figure for the Owls – now finds himself on four yellow cards after he was booked in the final few minutes of the 0-0 draw with Stoke City, meaning that one more yellow before or during their 19th game (against Nottingham Forest on December 15th) will result in a one-game ban.

As stated by the FA’s rules, players will be suspended for one match if they pick up five yellows in their first 19 games, for two matches if they get 10 in 37, and three if they receive 15 by the end of the last game of the season.

Tony Pulis doesn’t want to be picking up any more suspensions given the fact that his side are already a bit short due to injuries, and he’ll be wary of the fact that both Barry Bannan and Moses Odubajo are on three yellows and just a couple of bookings away from a ban themselves.

For Luongo, however, the situation is more pressing given the position that he plays, with the defensive midfielder arguably the player most likely to be booked on a regular basis.
