Danny Rohl is a 35-year-old football coach and former defender. He was born in Zwickau, Germany, which is just over an hour away from Leipzig. During his playing days, he represented lower league teams FSV Zwickau, FC Sachsen Leipzig II and FC Eilenburg across three years before turning his hand to coaching.
He then linked up with RB Leipzig, Southampton and Bayern Munich as a coach. He later became the assistant manager of the German national team. Rohl became Wednesday manager in 2023, and that was and is his first first-team management role.
Rohl’s work at Wednesday so far
Rohl was appointed as Wednesday boss last October, and he managed to guide the club to safety with limited resources. The Owls secured survival on the last day of the season and Rohl was handed a new contract this summer for his work.
Speaking after penning his new deal, Rohl said: “The way we finished last season was amazing, so much hard work came to fruition but we do not stop here. We must continue to show the same effort levels and desire for the future, the chairman is ambitious, I am ambitious and our fantastic supporters are ambitious too.”

He has forged a special relationship with our supporters in the short space of time he has been here and now this journey continues. The hard work preparing for next season is already underway, it was important to secure Danny’s services on a well-deserved new contract and I am delighted this is now in place.”
ITV punditry role
Rohl revealed that he had been asked to join ITV’s punditry panel for the group stage earlier this summer. “I got the request from ITV and I will go for one week to Berlin to do five games as an expert to speak about the games,” he told The Training Ground Guru podcast. “It will be an exciting new challenge for me. I have never had this experience before, but it will be a good experience for me as well.”
Rohl’s remaining games as an ITV pundit are as follows:
Slovenia v Serbia - Thursday 20th June, 2pm
Poland v Austria - Friday 21st June, 5pm
Turkey v Portugal - Saturday 22nd June, 5pm
