Wednesday will be aiming to cement their position in the top six when they welcome Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

With 19 matches left to play, eight points currently separate Garry Monk's side from 17th-placed Derby County.

Luongo said: “Everyone has got something to play for. You get to that stage where teams are on 51 points, but I think this year it will go right down to the last few weeks.

“You are a triple-game week away from being in the top six.

“If you get three wins in a week, nine points, and you are in amongst it (top six). It’s so important to not lose points, but if you are mid-table, a couple of wins can push you up.”

“This season is an odd season, with all the things going on in the background, with Financial Fair Play, and the team is having to hold back a little bit with spending,” continued the midfielder.

“I think this season is a perfect time to get promotion.

“Every team is so even, and I think it will go right to the end (of the season).”

Fresh from beating Brighton in the cup and Leeds United, the Owls will be looking for a third consecutive win in all competitions for the first time since April 2018 under Jos Luhukay.

“The (team) are buzzing, just because we worked so hard during the week, specifically on Leeds and how they were going to play,” said Luongo.

“To go out and execute it perfectly, get the result, it was the best feeling. There was a lot of hype around that game, it was a massive game. An incredible feeling, I don’t think I could sleep that night.”

Blackburn head to S6 on the back of a six-match winless streak.

Central midfielder Luongo said: “Blackburn are quite organised, play 4-4-2, and quite solid.

“They have signed experienced players, who have played at this level for a long time.

“Every game is tough in this league. The most important thing is we have to turn up.”
