The 41-year-old, who came to the club in 2018 and works closely with the likes of Cameron Dawson and Joe Wildsmith, admitted he didn’t think he had the right personality for the management and while he appreciates the financial rewards for the work it entails, said he would not be interested in management.

Including caretaker boss Lee Bullen, Weaver has served under four Wednesday managers in that short time.

Speaking to the Undr The Cosh podcast, Weaver said: “I do my goalkeeping coaching and I really enjoy that. Obviously I played in goal for 20-odd years so I know a little bit about goalkeeping I suppose but management would be way above me I think.

“To be fair it's such a difficult job, I admire all managers. You'd be making decisions all day every day, you've got people knocking on your door and all the rest of it.

“Listen, they get well paid for it so hats off to them, but I don't think it would be for me.

“I wouldn't be able to be serious for long enough. I think as well in the world we live in now, with social media, it's just difficult isn't it? Every result gets scrutinised, everyone is suddenly an expert. The managers get well rewarded but they're obviously the ones that get all the flak for it.”

Lee was reunited with former Chesterfield teammate and United academy boss Jack Lester and started work – from home initially of course – last week.

“It was a really difficult decision because I really enjoyed my time at Wednesday,” Lee told Yorkshire Live. “It is a fantastic football club and it was a really good place to work with the likes of Steven Haslam and Nicky Weaver.

“But I just felt that this was an opportunity I couldn't really turn down.”
