That’s according to Monk himself, who said he has spoken to the Thai businessman several times a week through a run of one win since Christmas.

The 40-year-old former Leeds boss said after last week’s defeat against Reading that he understood the mounting pressure on his position but outlined his determination to turn things around at Hillsborough.

Asked of his relationship with Chansiri he said: “I'm in constant conversation with the owner and we're in constant dialogue. That's a continuous thing, during the week and before games, after games.

“I think he understands certain aspects of the job and what we're trying to do here and other situations. He's been very supportive.”

Monk has spoken about the desire to build a ‘bigger picture’ but conceded he knows results will have to turn in order to be given that time.

“Of course I understand these situations,” he said. “I can't afford, in the world I live in, to continuously not win games. Going on my experience of how I've been judged and my time frames, I understand that.

“But in terms of support from the chairman, it's been fantastic in terms of what I'm trying to do, what the club is going through and he understands it.

“We need to get results on the pitch whether there is support or not. And that's what I'm trying to focus on.”
