The former Match of the Day pundit and regular co-commentator, who won the competition with the Reds in 1986, also pointed to the Owls sketchy form of late in settling on a predicted scoreline of 2-0 to Mark Warburton’s men.

Lawrenson said as part of his weekly BBC predictions: “When you get into the FA Cup fourth round as a Championship club you always want a Premier League team next - especially Sheffield Wednesday, who have already beaten a top-flight team in round three.

“So, this won't have been a draw either team wanted, although both of them will still have promotion aspirations too - they might be in mid-table but, the way that division is, neither of them are out of that race yet.

“Both teams have been up and down form-wise, which is why they are where they are in the table, but with home advantage I'd back QPR to get through.”

If the former Republic of Ireland international is proven right it will be Wednesday’s fifth defeat in seven matches.

QPR could welcome back key man Jordan Hugill to the side after an unspecified injury kept him out of their impressive home win against Leeds last weekend, while full-back Liam Palmer is believed to be in contention for the Owls after an ankle lay-off.
