“I am very pleased,” Monk said.

“I think the main thing is we deserved to win that game.

“As the seconds tick down you are thinking I am probably coming in here and saying we did everything but put the ball in the back of the net.

“We had some glorious chances but for whatever reason we felt like it was not going to go in.

“What has been most pleasing these last two games we have been much more like ourselves.

“(We have been) much more to the performance levels that I expect and the players expect and the fans expect and what we were doing up until that Christmas period and these last two games we have tried to fight back for that. We would have liked to do it earlier but that period a lot of it is self-inflicted.”

He added: “It is very pleasing in these last two games to show that spirit and mentality and we kept going right til the end and kept pushing and got our deserved win.”
