The former Wigan Athletic manager has been linked with the Sheffield Wednesday manager’s job since the departure of Tony Pulis and indeed before that, for a short while among the favourites for the role after Garry Monk’s departure.

Hide AdThe Star columnist Alan Biggs revealed last week that the charismatic Liverpudlian had been approached by Wednesday to sound out his availability for the role, though they are understood to have done this with several candidates.
He was not approached ahead of Pulis mini-reign only a couple of months ago.
Cook appeared as a studio pundit for Sky Sports’ coverage of Charlton Athletic’s defeat to his old club Accrington Stanley last night and was asked about increasing speculation he could be the next man for the Hillsborough hotseat.

Hide Ad“It is very, very flattering to be linked,” he said. “I am an out of work manager and I am desperate to get back into football.
“You miss the day to day of the dressing room, good or bad. The interaction with the players.
“Sheffield Wednesday is an absolutely massive football club. It would be a fantastic club for anyone to manage so while I'm being linked with it, it is obviously very flattering.”

Hide AdThe appointment would see Cook return to work after leaving Wigan in the summer and would see him reunited with his former players Chey Dunkley and Josh Windass.
He has also managed Irish side Sligo Rovers, Chesterfield and Portsmouth in his career.
