Boro won on their last trip to Sheffield as they picked up a 2-1 victory in the final game of the 2019/20 campaign, and they head into this week’s game on the back of three consecutive wins in which they’ve scored eight goals.
As quoted on the club’s official website, the Middlesbrough boss said, “Sheffield Wednesday won’t be an easy game at all with Tony in charge there now… If you don’t know it’s going to be a tough one you’re in the wrong game.
“We’ll be ready and prepared for it. We don’t want another Stoke or Preston.”
He also told the media of his team’s plan for the trip to S6, saying, “We're going down to Sheffield on Tuesday morning and having a sleep in the afternoon rather than the night before. I thought Preston was too long a day.
“The postponement does give us a breather but I'm not sure this group wants it.”
Boro didn’t play on Boxing Day after a number of positive COVID-19 cases in the Rotherham United squad, meaning that they’ve had a 10-day break between their matches, while the Owls were in action on Saturday as they drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers.
