The Chelsea-owned playmaker has been left frustrated at a lack of opportunity in the side so far, with his last start for the club arriving way back in September under Garry Monk.

Brown 24, is under consideration to play in the club’s under-23 side in the coming weeks and The Star understands he was close to playing in Friday afternoon’s fixture against Nottingham Forest.

An early-season knee injury has curtailed his progress and he is yet to play more than 19 minutes in any of the 13 league matches played under either Tony Pulis or current caretaker boss Neil Thompson and didn’t travel for the trip to Bournemouth in midweek.

While Wednesday continue on their handsome run of form Brown may well find it difficult to break his way in.

Speaking to The Star, Thompson confirmed the talented midfield man needed to improve his match fitness

“He’s been unlucky, Izzy,” he said. “He’s a great kid. I’ve spoken to him and he needs to play more football in terms of whether it’s training or under 23s games to then get on board.

“He’s someone that will be disappointed at the minute, he didn’t get down to Bournemouth, but that’s part and parcel of what we do.

“Izzy has got something to offer, that’s no question, and we’ve got quite a lot of games left. We’re going to need every single one of the players.”
