Simpson, who Is available to sign immediately given his status as a free agent, began training with the Owls earlier this week, and played an hour for the club’s U23s on Monday as they were beaten 3-1 by Coventry City.

Wednesday manager, Darren Moore was there to watch Simpson and the U23s at Middlewood Road against the Sky Blues, but there has been no official comment as yet with regards to whether he could secure himself a deal or not.

With that in mind, it’s highly unlikely that the right back would be able to feature against his old club, Huddersfield Town, tonight, with the club having needed to register him by midday yesterday for him to be eligible.

The English Football League’s state -

43.8 Subject to Regulations 43.2, 43.3, 43.9 and 57, a Player will only be eligible to play in a match organised by The League if:

43.8.1 the appropriate forms for his registration or the transfer of his registration (including, for the avoidance of doubt, Temporary Loan Transfers) are submitted (in such manner as the League shall specify from time to time) to and received by The League by 12.00 noon on the day prior to the date of such match; and confirmed by the League to be in order.

At this point in time there have been no suggestions regarding the serious of any interest that Wednesday may have in the former Leicester City man, but Moore will be asked about him later this evening after the encounter with the Terriers at Hillsborough.

In more match-related news, Moore will welcome Julian Börner back into contention for this evening’s game at S6 after he served his one-game suspension, while there could be a chance that Andre Green could be back in the squad as he steps up his return from an Achilles injury.

The game kicks off at 7.45pm this evening as SWFC seek to end a seven-game losing streak.
