Senior men such as Keiren Westwood and Sam Hutchinson have been frozen out by Wednesday boss Garry Monk in recent weeks and with the club on a run of six matches without a win, there have been suggestions the side are missing their experience and personality.

But Pelupessy, who himself has fallen back into favour in recent weeks having started four of their last five matches, believes there is more than enough leadership in Monk’s current squad to turn their run of form around.

He said: “If you look at the ages of the players, there are a lot of experienced players here, more than me.

“I'm 26 now and sure, you have the young guys, but I am still one of the youngest in terms of the biggest part of the group, they're all older than me and they played a lot of games in the Premier League also.

“The guys have experience, there are leaders here and there is a lot of leadership in this group.”

Pelupessy, who also took time to back the ‘big picture’ vision of under-pressure manager Garry Monk, reported a determined mood at their Middlewood Road training ground, claiming hard work and hard work alone is what will get them out of their current malaise.

“The mood is not bad,” he said. “Like at training, of course, if you win games, everybody is laughing and you're having fun. There's a good atmosphere. But it's not really bad [at the moment]. It's not like that. But you definitely feel as a group, you know, we need to wake up.

“We had a bad run and it's time to win now. It’s not like everybody is very sad.

“Of course we are disappointed but not sad because if you are too sad and an atmosphere is so bad that it influences the team, that's not what we want. The atmosphere is not bad, but it could be better, that's clear.”
