5. Mick Lyons
Strong as an ox and twice as hard. Yet another Wednesday legend in what was an iconic side. Started out at Everton before making the move to Wednesday, where he made 129 league appearances. Moved to Grimsby as player-manager before a string of exotic managerial posts, including turns in Australia and as boss of Brunei. Photo: Steve Ellis

6. John Ryan
Pictured here in the colours of Newcastle, such was his short-lived spell at Wednesday, Ryan made only eight league appearances for the Owls, scoring one goal. Moved back to his beloved Oldham Athletic the following season where he remains a fan favourite. Also had spells at Mansfield, Chesterfield, Rochdale ad Bury before falling out of the football league. Photo: Getty Images

7. Brian Marwood
To Hull and then Sheffield United via Arsenal, winger Marwood joined the Owls for £115k in 1984, scoring 27 times in 128 league showings. Now a high-flying football administrator at the conglomerate City Football Group, Marwood was chairman of the PFA for three years in the 1990s. Photo: Getty Images

8. Andy Blair
A Scotland under-21 international, midfield man Blair arrived from Aston Villa in 1984, achieving the odd distinction of becoming the first man to score a hat-trick of penalties in Wednesday's clash against Luton in November that year. Was forced into retirement through injury at the age of just 30 having gone on to return to Villa and head through short spells at Barnsley and Northampton. Now works as a scout at Stoke.
