Against the odds, Second Division Wednesday beat a Manchester United team inching to the verge of greatness again in the League Cup final at Wembley, thanks to an iconic goal from John Sheridan. Those of you who watched it will still remember the ‘dink’ and those not old enough will certainly have been told about it.
"We had a great spirit. They just all gelled together. We went to a cup final that we knew we were going to win,” said boss Ron Atkinson. "I don’t think I’ve ever had that feeling in football, whoever we were playing, but we knew we were going down there to win it.”
To this day the Owls are the last non-top flight team to have won a major trophy in England.
But what happened to that class of 91? Alex Miller takes a look...

9. CM - John Sheridan
The goalscoring hero in the 91 final, Sheridan signed for Bolton and briefly Doncaster before dominating games from the centre-circle as a veteran at Oldham. Has had 13 managerial spells since going that way in 2006, three with Oldham and five if you include both caretaker stints. Won the League Two title and the Football League trophy with Chesterfield between 2010-2012. Went back to Oldham again and then left and will probably rock up there again sometime.. 10. CM - Danny Wilson
Joined Barnsley as a player in 1993 and started his managerial career there with success, before replacing Atkinson as Wednesday boss in 1998. Was manager of the Owls the season they were relegated from the Premier League two years later before doing well at Bristol City, MK Dons, Hartlepool and Swindon before jumping to the dark side with Sheffield United. Since returned to Barnsley and Chesterfield, who he left in 2017. Photo: RUI VIEIRA

11. RM - John Harkes
Fell out with Trevor Francis and left Wednesday in 1993, signing for Derby County and later West Ham. Returned to his US homeland in 1996 at the outset of Major League Soccer and had great success with DC United, New England Revolution and Columbus Crew. Has since gone into coaching and has had Championship-winning success with USL side Greenville Triumph. Son, Ian, plays for Dundee United. Photo: Shaun Botterill

12. F - David Hirst
The greatest goalscorer in Wednesday's modern history stayed on at the club until 1997 when he was sold to Southampton for a club-record fee. He returned to Wednesday in 2013, doing media and ambassadorial work while coaching the Owls youth sides of which his son George was a bright prospect. Left the club as he was caught up in a PR war when George left in 2018 and still lives locally. Photo: Steve Ellis
