It’s fair to say things couldn’t have got much worse in the opening 45 minutes at the AESSEAL New York Stadium last night as Sheffield Wednesday headed towards a 3-0 reverse at South Yorkshire neighbours Rotherham United.

The horror show sparked an angry response from Owls fans on social media, with many calling for manager Garry Monk to be sacked after his side’s third successive defeat.

Last night’s thrashing leaves Wednesday on minus four points in the Sky Bet Championship - five adrift of Saturday’s opponents Wycombe Wanderers, who picked up their first point of the season in drawing 1-1 with relegated Watford on Tuesday.

So, with the dust beginning to settle, somewhat, after the Rotherham debacle let’s take a look at what some Wednesdayites are saying on Twitter this morning.

@yana1867 I turned last night. Monk isn’t getting the best out of the players. Lots of hard luck, but no heart or desire. A squad that’s going back to last season’s standards with different players. BUT. Who do we get? I still think our owner’s ruining #swfc and needs holding to account too.

@MDN099 I'm not stepping foot inside Hillsborough again this season until he's gone! #swfc #monkout

@TrapitJon Last night should be the final straw and Dawson should be dropped but some fans have laughably short memories. I remember Westwood dropping clanger after clanger before being dropped last December #swfc

@Deeowl Neither Dawson or Wildsmith are good enough, keeper should have been a priority in the transfer window if Monk won’t let Westwood anywhere near the team. Sick of the long ball s***e too #antifootball #SWFC

@sweds1867 I mean to put into context how bad last night really was, we lost 3-0 to a team with 30 year old Joe Mattock and 35 year old Richard Wood in defence.

Shambles. #swfc

@Majortarantino Especially worrying that Monk thinks we "gave it a go" second half. Apart from a couple of runs by Reach and Dele-Bashiru they all jogged about and we nearly let another couple in #swfc

@hawky06 Only one man Wednesday should get in to get us out of the s*** we are in. Up steps Mick McCarthy #swfc. Like Bruce he will sort everything out from top to bottom.

@dave_swfc1 Has he gone yet? #swfc

@75HagueSWFC Waiting for the news that DC has sacked Monk, his staff and even himself and the lot will leave the club with immediate effect #swfc

@ade_hardwick Still fuming #SWFC

@walkerswfc Has Monk walked yet? #swfc

@Tim_Rowson I’ve genuinely lost interest in Sheffield Wednesday since Monk has been manager. I thought Jos was bad but this is just laughable now. I’ve stopped checking the #swfc hashtag and I’m not arsed about how we perform anymore. What happened to our club?T
