What Garry Monk said about Paul Warne ahead of Sheffield Wednesday trip to Rotherham United

Sheffield Wednesday are ‘running their own race’ when it comes to the Championship this season and have to improve greatly on their performance against Luton at the weekend if they are to bounce back at Rotherham this evening.

That’s the honest take of Owls boss Garry Monk, who outlined the need for the squad to remain positive despite tasting defeat in their last two outings.

Wednesday remain on minus-four points heading into what has been billed as a winnable double-header against the Millers and second-bottom Wycombe.

“We have to be much better and hopefully some margins will start to go for us,” he said.

“We had a disappointed changing room and quite rightly so but we don't have time to dwell.

“We know what is at stake for us and we are running our own race. It's a race that we constantly want to be doing well at throughout but we are going to have to take some blows along the way.”

On Rotherham and their charismatic boss Paul Warne, Monk said: “I know Paul very well, he’s a great guy.

“We’ve got to make sure our cause is stronger than anybody else’s, they’ve got their cause in trying to fight to stay in this league, push on from there and establish themselves as a Championship team.

“They’re going to play with that fight and we’re going to have to match that and come out on top of it. We have our own cause which has to be out biggest motivation and strength.

We have to come fighting back as we will have to at points throughout the season.”
