The match represents the start of a big week for Wednesday, with Rotherham and Wycombe making up a trio of matches against sides tipped to struggle this season.

Wednesday lost in their last outing against the Hatters and Monk says his side will need to face up against their ‘aggressive’ attitude if they are to end a nagging run of 10 home matches without a win.

“They’re always a good team, Luton,” he said. “It’ll be another tough Championship game. Nathan always sets his teams up well, they’re at you and they’re aggressive and we’re going to have to match that well and try to push our quality on them.

“We have to overcome their tenacious attitude and their quality to make sure we get the points.

“They’re doing very well. We have to do what we’ve been doing. If we hit the levels we have shown, we’ll be in a position to take points.

"They’ll come here with confidence, they’ve had a good start to the season, but we have to concentrate on ourselves and deliver a high level of performance.”

Luton boss Nathan Jones has spoken pre-match about Wednesday’s spending this season, commenting that the cost of the Owls strike force would account for his entire squad budget.

His Stoke side lost 1-0 at Hillsborough a year ago this week, when Jones bemoaned refereeing decisions in a match he said Wednesday presented a ‘very basic’ style of play.

Asked about Jones, Monk told The Star: “Nathan’s done fantastically well. I understand that jump up in terms of where he’d come from to Stoke where it didn’t go so well.

“You can go to clubs and it can suit you, you can go to clubs where through no fault of your own, it doesn’t quite work out for whatever reason.

“Luton looks and feels like a good fit for him. He did exceptionally well in his first spell there and went to Stoke, a big opportunity, it didn’t quite work out but that’s part of management. He’s gone back to Luton and it’s worked again.”
