But the former Middlesbrough and Leeds United boss will make the trip to the second city under pressure to put an end to a dismal run of results which has seen Wednesday slip to 12th place in the Sky Bet Championship and ultimately leading to a question mark over his future at S6.

The game will also see Monk come face-to-face with Blues manager Pep Clotet, his former assistant at St Andrew’s, whose hand he refused to shake when the two sides met at Hillsborough in November.

And while there maybe calls for Monk to lose his job from Owls fans on social media, it would appear the 40-year-old is a popular figure among some Birmingham supporters – although others say they lost respect for him after his handshake refusal.

Here’s what some Blues fans have said about Monk’s return on Saturday, according to BirminghamLive.

Dan Price: He definitely deserves a warm reception, did a very good job for us. Really nice bloke too when I bumped into him last year.

Reggie Ada Dixon: A very good one, show a bit of class for a change. He loved his time at the blues why the need to give him ****

Paul Hopkins: Monk deserves a warm welcome back to Stans, he helped us take a step back up and become a mid table team, brought the club, fans and community back together. Although Pep is doing very well for us at the moment I still think he was sacked way too soon.

Alan Prosser: Loved him at Blues but lost respect for the guy following his comments, treatment of Pep and lack of professionalism before/during/after our game at Hillsborough. Would rather get behind Blues on Saturday than waste energy on anything else.

Michael K Davies: A welcoming respect for the pride he gave us back in the teams he fielded.

Max Bradley: His relationship with the fans was class. Brought passion back into the stands and did well with us. We’ve moved on but if you feel like you want to boo him, you’re a bit of a weirdo.

Jon James: After Cotterill left he galvanised the club, brought the fans together, show some class and give him respect.

Raouf Swedek: For what he did with us, yeah he deserves a good one but what he did that lead to his departure and the way he acted and what he said about Pep that’s not right and he shouldn’t get any applause

Philip Walsh: No booing (as he has not directly disrespected us or the club) but no applause as he’s bossing the opposition and he acted like a ******** last November towards Pep.
