“We’re underdogs but…” – Sheffield Wednesday striker Jack Marriott takes aim at Everton scalp
Neil Thompson says that Jack Marriott has ‘come back in really good condition’ and is ‘looking really sharp’ – and the returning striker is eyeing a victory over Premier League Everton.
The Owls face off against the Toffees tomorrow evening at Goodison Park, making the trip there for the first time since they were a top-flight side themselves back in 2000.
Marriott hasn’t played for Wednesday since the 0-0 draw with Millwall in November, and he’ll be hoping that his wait for a first SWFC goal can come to an end in Merseyside as ‘Thommo’ and his troops look for another Premier League scalp.
The 26-year-old could return to the fold following his return from injury this weekend, and he admits that while their schedule is heavy, he prefers it that way.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the forward said, “Any time you face a Premier League side, particularly the calibre of Everton, it’s always a challenge. But it’s one we’re up for… We are the underdogs but we’ll be going there looking and doing our best to win.
“The schedule we have now is hectic for sure, and a win in the cup would only add to that, but for me, we are footballers and we love football and the best thing is playing games.
“So yes, if we progress to the next round, we’ll have an even more packed fixture list, but a packed schedule is a good thing in my eyes.”
Wednesday face Everton at 8pm tomorrow night as they eye a spot in the next round of the cup.
