"We're a circus and everybody's laughing" ... "Sell up, Chansiri" - Reaction to Sheffield Wednesday sacking Tony Pulis

The news and the timing shouldn’t really have come as a big surprise given that Sheffield Wednesday has in effect been a soap opera for quite a while now.

However, many have been taken aback by the announcement that the club have sacked Tony Pulis as manager, 45 days after appointing him to replace Garry Monk.

It’s the latest on a long line of shambolic occurences to come out of S6; some fans are still awaiting season ticket refunds, players have not been paid in full and now Chairman Dejphon Chansiri has lost his sixth manager with five of them having been given the boot. He only bought the club six years ago.

Wedesday fans have been up in arms at the decision. Not necessarily angry at Pulis leaving, but the timing and the fact that he lasted such a short time. Many of them described the decision as an embarrassment, even taking into account Pulis led the Owls to just one win in his brief tenure.

@edjacko posted: “Over my time as a Wednesday fan I’ve got used to my club being a shambles but the past few months have taken the cake. We’re a complete basket case. So sad for what should be a premier league club.”

And @dcturner71 placed the blame for the club’s predicament at the doo of the chairman: “Mr Chansiri. Sell up, accept your losses, accept this has been an expensive mistake of a project and let football people run our football club. We just want to be a football club again not a complete embarrassment.”

@JosephKing87 is predicting relegation at this rate: “Pulis sacked after 7 weeks. I'm not a fan of his tactics but, what chance has he had to address things? Talk about a club in disarray. This is the lowest ebb I've witnessed, even our league one days were brighter, and league one is most definitely where we're headed.”

@yana1867 has lost faith: “I won’t renew my ST. I haven’t ordered a game on iFollow since the Watford game. And I want my refund as soon as possible for 2020/21. Chansiri is ruining #swfc & is completely out of his depth. He always has been. He’s turned us into a joke on & off the pitch in all areas.”

And @THEsharpey is deeply concerned by what lies ahead: “Are we all worrying about how bad it’s likely to get? Seriously scared about what could happen to our club”

@SheffWedFC1867 added: “If the chairman thinks that Pulis is the wrong man after less than 2 months, he has to realise that he got the appointment wrong. Another decision that he’s got wrong. He either needs to accept proper help or consider selling cos football ain’t for him”

And @Jenniowl took a breath before posting: “Right. I’ve taken 30 mins to consider this and as per my gut reaction, it’s absolutely indefensible... the timing (20 hours before a game) the manner (which will cost us vs him walking) and the general chaos of it all leaves me in no doubt there is NO PLAN at #SWFC Disgraceful”

@Bellamyswfc said: “Who in their right mind would come and manage us? With him in charge? Slowly killing us! #chansiriout #swfc”

And @waynejackson84 knows the type of manager that has to go for the vacant post: “One thing for sure is we wont be getting a straight talker as the next manager. Chansiri wants a 'yes' man! Pulis gave it to him straight and the seems to have paid the price. I dont believe Paul cook stands a chance. 'Yes' men only need apply #swfc”

Meanwhile, @joeyy_stack1727 probably summed up the feeling of the fans: “We’re a circus and everyone’s laughing at us...”
