The panic buyers and those profiting from communities turned upside down have had plenty of coverage. What needs more light shone on it is that the very best of what we can offer one another has grown from the crevices of this awful situation.

Browsing the Sheffield Wednesday Twitter community this week there’s been a very genuine concern for one another. A fanbase that can fall into the trap of tearing one another to shreds about goalkeeper selections and transfer dealings has acted as a big, virtual family.

There have been enquiries as to the safety of elderly folk that sit near them at Hillsborough and offers of food deliveries to perfect strangers.

Wednesdayite health experts have offered advice and strategies on how to face up to the potential of months stuck inside.

The club’s social media channels have provided much-needed light relief with a stream of classic goals and memorable moments from Wednesday history. And we’ve done our best to fill the important social void that football has left in so many lives, too.

The Star is well aware of its role in this not-so-little community. Some of the most vulnerable people in our society in isolation and are relying on our newspaper to provide a daily connection with the outside world. We are Sheffield’s local paper and times like these deliver a new perspective.

Couple that with the need for our digital content to provide an escapism from the miserable world outside and it’s a responsibility we’re taking very seriously.

Indeed, the screeching halt of the press conference-to-matchday grind has provided sports writers with a unique challenge in how best to fulfil those needs. But it’s one we’re all enjoying. The fact is that we have time and a blank canvas. The shackles of routine are off.

We’ve spent hours coming up with fresh ways to serve our community and we’ll continue to do so.

But The Star is a mere cog in the Sheffield Wednesday machine. There are thousands of supporters out there doing so much more.
