Sheffield Wednesday discover their Carabao Cup opponents in local rival draw

Their 2021/22 league fixtures were confirmed earlier this morning, and now Sheffield Wednesday know who they’ll be facing in the First Round of the Carabao Cup.

Wednesday were the first out of the bowl on Thursday afternoon as Andy Cole delved into it and pulled out their number 30 ball, and they’ve been pitted against local rivals, Huddersfield Town who should have Jordan Rhodes available.

The Owls reached the Third Round of the competition last time out, beating Walsall and Rochdale before falling to Premier League opponents, Fulham.

Matches are scheduled to take place in the week commencing August 9th – not long after their opening League One game against Charlton Athletic, however clubs are able to mutually agree an alternative date prior to that week if preferred.

The League Cup was the last piece of major silverware that the Owls won, famously picking up the trophy in 1991 when they beat Manchester United to clinch what was then known as the Rumbelows Cup.
