Many eyes will be elsewhere as the football world watches the end of the European transfer window unfold, but if you’re interested in what happens when Wednesday face Newcastle’s youngsters then you’re in the right place.

Sheffield Wednesday v Newcastle United U21s - It’s Papa John’s Trophy time...

Key Events

  • It’s also transfer deadline day
  • The Owls face the youngsters from Tyneside
  • Moore is expected to ring the changes

Johnson gets off the mark for Wednesday as he strikes well with his left from a tight angle on the left side of the Newcastle box, and it ricochets in off the post. The Owls cruising now.

Langley with another big stop as a cross finds Sow in the box... It was offside in the end, but still a great close-range stop.

Second half underway...

The Owls kick off, and the second half is on.

And that’s that for the first half.

Wednesday deservedly lead, and if we’re honest it should be much more than 1-0. The Owls have been wasteful, but they’ve done enough to be up at the break.

Just a couple added on

You can’t say it wasn’t coming, and it’s Sow on his Wednesday debut. An attempted headed clearance from Newcastle falls at his feet, and he wasn’t missing that time. The Owls are ahead. 1-0.

Langley with a top, top save to keep out a placed volley from Corbeanu... Should have been 1-0, but that’s great goalkeeping.

Another chance, another chance missed. Kamberi broke the Newcastle backline, but after FDB’s pass found him his effort beat the keeper but not the woodwork.

He’s getting into the game a bit more now, and his latest effort from range was much closer... But it whistles wide of the post.

Then it falls to Adeniran in the box, but he’s falling as the ball comes to him and he volleys it over.
