The Owls were expected to make a number of changes as Darren Moore shuffled the pack once again this evening, and he did just that as only three players from the Wycombe Wanderers game retained their place.

Wednesday had some good history against Hartlepool – most famously in the 2005 Play-Off final – and hadn’t lost to them since a 3-0 defeat away from home that same year. That changed at Hillsborough as they were beaten by the same scoreline – this time at home.

We’ll be bringing you all the latest from Hillsborough right here on our blog, with Steve Jones and Joe Crann covering the game for all of those that aren’t able to attend.

It was one to forget for Moore and his players, and they’ll be keen to move on from it as soon as possible.

Sheffield Wednesday v Hartlepool United - Owls look to progress in Papa John’s Trophy

Key Events

  • Wednesday have some good memories against Hartlepool
  • The Owls are on an unbeaten run at home that has lasted eight games
  • Darren Moore has made plenty of changes

A mix up between Paterson and Windass before the latter gets off a shot. It flies well over the bar. Half-decent chance, that.

Wing goes off, Agbontohoma comes on and goes into defence.

Corbeanu smashes an effort towards the far post... Not sure if it was a cross or shot, but it whistled past the post anyway. Hunt couldn’t get on the end of it.

Wednesday had been better, but that was horrendous defending from the corner and it’s poked home by Goodwin. Let’s call it a night.

A proper chance, finally!

Nice work down the Wednesday left, and Corbeanu finds Berahino... His effort is solid enough, but straight at the goalkeeper - who’s positioning was good.

Wednesday looking better, but haven’t created anything noteworthy just yet... Hartlepool in no rush, obviously. Could be a long half for the Owls.

Already much better from the Owls, who have started the half brightly. Bannan making an immediate impact.

Second half underway

Shodipo, Sow and Byers have gone off.

No surprise to see Hunt, Bannan and Windass come on. No hanging about from Moore.
