The game ended up being decided in the seventh minute through an Tom Lees own goal that was hotly disputed.

Sheffield Wednesday’s best chance to equalise came through Jordan Rhodes after 65 minutes, but he couldn’t keep his effort down.

After the final whistle, @matt_h4 tweeted: “Very annoyed with that result. Thought we did OK but nothing more than that. Watford fortunate to win with that goal but we never got them out of first gear.

Tom Taylor-Batty said: “Not much more you can say other that, Watford are a top side heading for the Premier League. We're a poor team heading for League One.

"It wasn't a terrible performance today but same old issues, we don't come back. We don't have it in us.”

The Owls remain six points from safety with eight matches left following today’s result, their twentieth league defeat of the season.

James Simpson said: “Thought Wednesday played well today. Offside rule still confuses me as I'd have expected that one to be ruled out”.
