Hamer, who will turn 37 this year, will be a free agent come July as his contract with the Hornets comes to an end, and it doesn’t sound like the shot-stopper will be on the lookout for a new club for very long.
Having played for the likes of Brentford, Leicester City, Huddersfield Town and Swansea City over a career that has spanned nearly two decades, Hamer has no shortage of experience in the English Football League, and has played almost 160 games at Championship level for a host of different clubs.

Hide AdRadio Sheffield journalist, Rob Staton, says that his next destination is Hillsborough, as the Owls look to bolster their options between the sticks, and he said on Twitter today, “Per sources, understand GK Ben Hamer set to join Sheffield Wednesday.”
The 36-year-old has been with Watford since 2022 when he joined from Swansea as a free agent, and has gone on to play 22 times for them over the past two seasons, including a clean sheet at S6 when the two teams played earlier this year.
Hamer, with the news of his departure from Vicarage Road, took to Instagram to say, “Been a pleasure, Watford. I wish you all the best for the future. Thanks to all the supporters who made me feel at home every time I got out on the turf, and most of all thanks to the staff and boys in the changies who I will miss the most. Good luck.”
