Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray reflected on a three-pronged attack of bad luck as his side lost 3-0 to Watford at Hillsborough.
Sam Hutchinson, only just back in the side after injury, was forced off after just six minutes and then Odion Ighalo put the Hornets in front with a controversial goal which Gray felt was offside.
The normally outstanding Keiren Westwood then let Almen Abdi’s weak effort squirm beneath his body and from there, with Wednesday struggling, it was all but game over at the break.
Matej Vydra sealed the win with a goal his performance deserved but while Gray admitted Watford were the better team, the Hutchinson injury, Westwood’s howler and particularly the failure, in his opinion, to rule out the first goal, contributed to the defeat according to the head coach.
“I’ve seen the goal, it was blatantly offside,” said Gray. “As soon as he was put through I thought, ‘well he’s going to put his flag up...’”
