Milan Mandaric bid farewell to Sheffield Wednesday fans with an emotional speech on the pitch at Hillsborough before the team’s clash with Cardiff City.
The outgoing chairman is to step down having sold the club to Thai businessman Dejphon Chansiri, four years after helping Wednesday out of the financial mire which almost caused them to go into administration.
In his speech, during which his name bellowed around the ground, Mandaric stated his love for Sheffield Wednesday and that he hopes the fans give the new owner the same level of support that he received during his time at the helm.
He said: “I ask you to give support to Mr Chansiri, the same that you gave to me. He convinced me is he going to take the programme forward to get us to the Premier League.
“In a few days I will step down as your Chairman but I will never step down as your friend and a supporter of your wonderful club.
“I will miss you greatly. I love you, I thank you and God bless you all.”
