VIDEO Middlesbrough boss admits he was wary of Sheffield Wednesday striker Atdhe Nuhiu

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka expressed his pride in his side's performance in their 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday, not least after seeing Atdhe Nuhiu come off the bench for the second half.

After a sluggish first 45 minutes from Wednesday at Hillsborough, during which they fell behind to an Adam Reach goal before the break, Nuhiu was sent on.

The Austrian has an impressive record against Boro, scoring three goals in two games last season, but it was Marco Matias who equalised, via a big deflection.

But the visitors dealt well with Nuhiu's additional threat and it was they who scored again, through Diego Fabbrini before Cristhian Stuani sealed the three points late on

Karanka said: "I am proud of my team. All the players did well because it was a difficult game, especially after our defeat last Saturday at home. The reaction we had after they equalised was really good.

"We played really, really well in the first half and in the second half with (Atdhe) Nuhiu on the pitch we knew it was going to be much more difficult because he's a player who can change everything. Last season we had a lot of problems to stop him and when he was on the pitch it was difficult.
