Grant, 37, has played only two first team games for the Red Devils since his shock signing in 2018 and is their third-choice stopper behind David De Gea and Sergio Romero.

He made 145 appearances for Wednesday between 2007 and 2010, usurping Rob Burch as the club’s number one and is delighted to be staying on with the Premier League giants.

“I love being here and clearly somebody likes me being here also, so it's good to have it sorted,” he told manutd.com.

“I'm just looking forward to being part of next year and part of watching the football club grow and move forward, which for me, has been happening clearly over the last 18 months anyway.

“But seeing those seeds that have been planted and getting the chance to hopefully see the fruits of that next year will be nice.

“Obviously, I'm very much used to it now because I'm at the tail-end of my career and it's kind of normal to be in those situations [having a contract run down].

“It happens in every footballer's life, it's part of it, coming to the end of contracts and time at a football club and not not knowing where you find yourself.”

He made his European debut for United in November, coming off the bench after Romero was sent off in a match against Kazakh outfit Astana.

Entering the twilight of his career, his main focus is now on coaching. He has been given the opportunity to coach some of the younger goalkeepers under United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“I'm still working hard at the coaching and putting the final touches to my 'A' licence now,” he said.

“It's a good thing being at such a fantastic club that is giving me an opportunity to do that as well, by working with some of the younger players, is something I very much appreciate. I will look to continue that next year as well.”
