The transfer window may have closed, but with Richards a free agent following his Cardiff exit, he’s still fair game for any club looking to bring him on board at any point in time.

Richards, now 29, has 120 Championship appearances under his belt over the years, and it is understood that he is still keen on remaining in England’s second tier as he considers the next step in his career.

According to reports, the Owls are one of a number of clubs to have shown an interest in the left-sided Welsh international, alongside the likes of Salford City, Fleetwood Town and MK Dons, now that transfers are limited to free agents following the closure of the window.

The Star understands, however, that there is nothing more than rumours at this point in time, with any interest from the Owls having not gone further than having him on a list of potential targets.

It remains to be seen whether that will change at any stage should Garry Monk look to reunite with his former Swansea City manager, but for now it appears that interest elsewhere might be more solid.

Wednesday have had a busy few months in the transfer market as they sought to replace a number of players that left last season, with Chey Dunkley and Korede Adedoyin the only two who remain without a senior Owls debut up to now.
