The Owls will be taking part in the EFL Trophy for the first time since the 2011/12 promotion season out of League One, and Darren Moore will no doubt be using it as an opportunity to get to know his players better following a number of senior exits and internal promotions.

Wednesday have been placed in Group H alongside Harrogate Town and Mansfield Town in the predetermined aspect of the draw, and will then be joined by one of eight invited teams who will make up the final spot.

Moore’s side will go up against the U21s from Everton, Leeds United, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United or Wolverhampton Wanderers, with that draw taking place on Thursday at 4.30pm.

Each team will play each other once in the group stages, with the top two progressing into the second round – which is a Northern section knockout – prior to another regional Third Round before the Northern and Southern sections combine for the quarterfinals.

EFL clubs will play two of their three group matches at home, with the first round of fixtures set to take place in the week commencing August 30th.

Meanwhile, Wednesday are ball number 30 in the Carabao Cup draw, which will take place at 3.40pm tomorrow. Both draws will be live on Sky Sports.
