Alas, Sylvinho and Thierry Henry stepped in to draw the tie at 3-3 and confirm the Owls’ relegation. The club are yet to make a return to the top tier of course. That Arsenal draw came 20 years ago today.

But what are the supporters' memories of that fateful trip to London? Mixed to say the least.

Mark Hunnaball said: “Any midfield with Barry Horne and Danny Sonner in were doomed.”

Wednesday fanzine War of the Monster Trucks wrote: “Played well. I think Viera came on for them and changed it. Had we won, as crap as we were that season, we would have gone into last game with a chance of staying up. Not to be tho. Wednesday fans were magnificent as we defiantly sang "We'll be back". Liam Rowe said: “Knew equaliser was coming, caved in like usual, nothings really changed”, while Michael Januszkiewicz said: In Edward’s in Doncaster in raptures & knocking the ale back at 3-1 to #SWFC.

“At 3-3, and for the rest of the night, no matter how much I put away I couldn’t get drunk. Numb & in shock is how I remember feeling. In 2020 I know we deserved it, we don’t deserve a 20-year gap though.”

Alan Hurndall remembers: “Arsenal fans singing we'll never see you again... true in respect of Highbury,” while @gerrybaby31 wrote: “We all knew that relegation was more or less inevitable and when we were 3-1 up it was like a stay of execution, unfortunately the arse came back and equalised.”

John Wigston missed the match altogether: “My Mum wouldn’t let me go because it was midweek in London and I had school the next day.”

@1867Rob recalls: “I was shocked that we managed to get a point and score 3 goals, expected a thrashing after the dire performance at Coventry.” and Matt Bloomfield agrees, saying: “Wasnt that painful as already knew we were down. Bit annoyed we let 3-1 lead slip but was a good game & thought would lose about 6-0 before.”
