Tony Pulis appoints surprise new assistant manager at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday boss Tony Pulis has continued to place his mark on life at Middlewood Road with the appointment of a new assistant manager.

Mike Trusson will be the 62-year-old’s right-hand man and will take to the dugout in what will be Pulis’ first match at Preston North End this weekend.

The pair worked together at Gillingham, where they earned great acclaim for steering the provincial club to a promotion near-miss in 1999, going 2-0 up in a memorable playoff final clash with Manchester City before falling foul to the playoff heroics of current Owls coach Nicky Weaver.

He has worked with Pulis at a handful of clubs since on the scouting and recruitment side.

Trusson, 61, becomes Pulis’ second coaching appointment after the addition of Craig Gardner earlier this week.

Speaking to the media in his first engagement as Owls manager earlier this week, Pulis outlined his desire to bring in a number of new coaches.
