The experienced defender was back with the rest of his Owls teammates this week as the team returned to training for the first time since Garry Monk’s Wednesday exit, with Neil Thompson believed to have been the man in charge of training while Dejphon Chansiri looks for a new manager.

A whole host of names had been linked with the vacant post at Hillsborough, but it’s now been confirmed that it will be Tony Pulis that takes over as Monk’s successor, and Lees says it’ll be a case of the slate being wiped clean under the new boss.

Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel prior to the announcement of Pulis’ arrival, the Wednesday centre back said, “We’ve got to focus on getting ready now… It’s a clean slate for everybody, that’s what people always say, isn’t it, when a new manager comes in. It’s about going and showing him that you deserve to be playing.

“While it’s being sorted out, the lads have got time on the pitch to make sure they’re fit, ready and sharp to go on the first day for whoever comes in.

“It’s important that we all keep pushing each other through it.”

Lees went on to speak, also, of the importance of getting off the bottom of the league earlier this month following the draw at Millwall, and he wants them to keep pushing now.

He added, “As a team we had the target to be off the foot of the table at this point… I know we’ve been helped out by the deduction being halved, but we’re still off the bottom now and we’ve got to build on that and go forward.

“We’re not a million miles away from the other teams, and it seems a bit more realistic now that we’re in with the pack.”

Wednesday face Preston North End on November 21st, and the players will be seeking to build further on their win over Bournemouth and draw against Millwall with a new man at the helm.
