Sheffield Wednesday boss, Danny Röhl, admits that the current fixture schedule is a ‘challenge’, but says he won’t be moaning about it.

The Owls are currently in the middle of a three-game week as they prepare to travel to both Bristol City and Coventry City in the space of a few days following their Hillsborough win over West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, not leaving them much time to work on things on the training ground at Middlewood Road.

Röhl is aware of the fact that it won’t be the last time they find themselves in a similar situation, with many more games left to play in the Championship, however did call the scheduling behind their back-to-back away games ‘interesting’.

“We have to take it,” he said. “We cannot change the schedule but it is a challenge. We play Bristol City on the Wednesday, if we come back then it could be Thursday morning then we travel again on Friday to Coventry. This is the Championship, it is a part of our job, but it is what we have to improve. It is really interesting that we have this away, away in a row but this is the schedule and we will have this more times.

“To speak just about this and to look for excuses makes no sense. It is more important that we come through, how we can recover well, how we can adapt the training, reduce the load and find the balance between keeping the starting XI with a core, but also finding positions where we can rotate. It is a challenge and all the small details we will look at.

“It is Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday and hopefully we will have all the points we want to have in the international break. We will then reload our batteries and go again with seven matches in three weeks. This is the job.”

The Owls saw off West Brom in dramatic fashion on Saturday to climb out of the Championship relegation zone, and if things go their way over the next few days then the table could look very different for Röhl and his Owls heading into the international break.
