There’s a clear frontrunner in the race for the Sheffield Wednesday job according to the betting odds – Paul Cook the bookies’ favourite to land Owls post

Cook is a free agent after leaving Wigan Athletic at the end of last season, and the lack of compensation required could be a big incentive for the Owls given the fact that they’re already having to pay out Monk and his staff.

As things stand, the former Chesterfield boss is at 10/11 to land the position at Hillsborough as Wednesday seek a new appointment ahead of facing Preston North End on November 21st, with SWFC legend, Nigel Pearson, and Tony Pulis also at good odds of 5/1.

Eddie Howe and another former Owl, Ryan Lowe, are currently at 8/1, followed by Danny Cowley at 12/1, Lee Johnson at 16/1, and then ex-boss Carlos Carvalhal and David Wagner at 20/1.

Among the outside bets are former Englang international, Sol Campbell (25/1), as well as past Wednesday heroes such as Roland Nilsson (40/1) and Benito Carbone (50/1).

Wednesday will be eager to get things tied up quickly, and it would also be naïve to try and second guess Chansiri, who could well already have Monk’s replacement lined up and ready to go.

All odds above are from SkyBet and are correct as of the time of writing, though as we know things can change rapidly in football and others could come into (or fall out of) the race at any stage.
