The web is buzzing to the sounds of Sheffield Wednesday making news.
The club has been quiet recently, with manager Stuart Gray seemingly out of the contact with the press for weeks.
Now we know why - he has been axed by the ownership.
This is what internet posters have had to say tonight:
Vsuk on thestar.co.uk website said: “Sacking the manager the players respected & gave 110% for every day really shows the best interest for the club. I’m sorry but a manager with no money to buy the players he wants can really do anything worthwhile. What Gray did was stabilize the club & improved with very little resources.
“I find this highly disrespectful & I don’t care what the narrow minded morons say he deserved the chance to show what he can do with money backing because he’s clearly proven what he can do without it!”
bustermick added: “Sorry for stu I still think he would have done a decent job for us but us fans dont know what happens behind the scenes; just a thought but maybe there was a difference of opinion with the committee on transfers, but all the best to Stu a really nice guy.”
Histerry12 added: “Stu did a good job with limited resources and perhaps deserved the chance to see what he could do with a competitive budget. Having said that, I believe that Stu’s style of play suggests he’s the man to keep a side out of a relegation fight, but he isn’t adventurous enough to get one into the Premiership. As for the next manager, what about Slavisa Jokonovic, recently resigned manager of Watford? Now there was a team that was attack-minded and very entertaining to watch. Warburton or Allardyce would be good choices, but please NOT Steve Evans.”
On twitter, Laura Jones wrote: “(Mark) Warburton already 3/1 fav. Would be delighted but he left Brentford cos of the DoF/Coach set up. #swfc structure not what he wants. If he puts Glenn Roeder in charge I ain’t going to happy.”
New York Owls posted: “Massive thanks to Gray. Our best manager in years. (I know there’s not a lot of competition.)”
And sports commentator Paul Walker added: “Big Sam leading the betting for #swfc? Mark Warburton would be my choice but who knows.”
On our Facebook page, Carlos Shires summed up the mood of many: “Shocking Decision.”
While Daryl Slinn posed the question: “Why now and who does he have lined up ?
