Moses Odubajo hasn’t had the immediate impact at Sheffield Wednesday that he’d been hoping for, but he says that he wants to show Owls fans why they were right to sign him.

The 26-year-old former Hull City and Brentford, who has played predominantly as a right back in his games under Garry Monk so far, has had his injuries over the years – missing two seasons with an awful knee problem – but now appears to be clear of that as he focuses on trying to make a name for himself at Hillsborough.

Now, with time to reflect during the global lockdown that has brought football to a standstill, Odubajo says that he still has ambitions to prove to Wednesdayites that signing him as a free transfer was some good business by Dejphon Chansiri.

The defender told The Athletic, “If you’ve not been in good form, then the fans see that and let you know about it… It’s part of the job. It comes with training and playing with a big club, and you have to take that on the chin and make it motivate us.

“I probably didn’t realise (responding to criticism) was one of my strengths really until lockdown has happened, and it has made me realise that I have been through a lot and this is another stepping stone in my career.

“At some point, the fans will realise that they have a good player on their hands rather than thinking, ‘Why have they signed this guy?’”

Despite relatively limited game time, Odubajo has staked a claim for more time on the pitch by having the highest percentage of defensive duels won (67%) of all the defensive players at S6 this season, and has also averages the joint-highest amount of successful tackles (2.5) per game.

Odubajo has played 15 league games so far in 2019/20 since penning a two-year deal with Wednesday back in July, also playing a game in each of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup competitions.
