And it seems both club and player are at something of an impasse in terms of any attempt to move him out of the club before Friday’s deadline, with no firm offer arriving since two clubs saw loan bids come to nothing earlier in the window.

The Star revealed last week that two Championship clubs had made approaches for the former Republic of Ireland international that included hefty contributions to the keeper’s wages, though no fee was included. Despite nothing coming of these approaches, Wednesday are understood to be keen to move Westwood on.

The 35-year-old, who is currently training away from the senior squad with the club’s under-23s, is believed to be enjoying passing his experience onto the likes of Josh Render but has previously stated his desire to get a couple more seasons out of his playing career. His Owls contract runs out in the summer.

Fellow veteran stopper Lee Camp, who previously worked with Monk at Birmingham, is training with the first team squad though as reported by The Star on Monday, he is doing so – as it stands – only in a bid to maintain fitness following his St Andrews exit.
