As things stand, Wednesday are seven points adrift of 21st-placed Birmingham City (although do have two games in hand), but could leapfrog the Millers tonight if they manage to get off to a winning start in Darren Moore’s first game in charge.

Stats like the fact that Wednesday have dropped so many points from winning positions and failed to come back from behind on even one occasion this season have been widely spoken about, but another aspect they need to fix is the amount of points picked up against their relegation opponents.

Out of a possible 24 points up for grabs against the other five teams in the current bottom six, Wednesday have picked up just nine, losing five of the eight games and conceding nine goals to the four that they’ve managed to score.

For Moore, he’ll be pleased with the fact that they still have games against Huddersfield, Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers coming up after tonight’s crunch clash with Rotherham, but it also means that they need to improve on their return against the sides around them.

There are still plenty of games to play and more than enough points up for grabs to secure their Championship status, but you’d think that it’ll be results against teams in the bottom half of the table that will keep them up – rather than the odd result against those pushing for promotion.
