'The final nail in his S6 career, you'd think' . . . 'TP was right to haul him off!' - Sheffield Wednesday fans on Jordan Rhodes and drab draw with Stoke City

It was a game of few scoring opportunities with Owls ‘keeper Joe Wildsmith called into action just once, pulling off a brilliant save with his legs to keep out Potters’ striker Sam Vokes in the closing stages.

The result leaves Tony Pulis, who came up against one of his former employers at S6 this afternoon, without a win in his opening three games but our Wednesday correspondent, Joe Crann, says the new boss will have taken some positives out of the game.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “Wednesday needed to sort out their defensive shape, stop conceding, and specifically stop conceding late. In terms of that, job done so far.”

But with chances at a premium, one of the game’s big talking points was Pulis’ decision to withdraw striker Jordan Rhodes from proceedings towards the end of the game after being introduced as a substitute, himself, at the break.

So, what did Owls fans make of that and the disappointing affair which unfolded at a wet Hillsborough?

Let’s take a look.

@BenOwl1867 Surely last time we have to experience Rhodes, absolutely terrible #swfc

@mrpaulhank One ever so slight positive....never felt like we’d lose as game wore on. #swfc #wawaw

@Jinja_Owl Can’t believe people still think Rhodes deserves yet more chances. He’s a spent force. Hasn’t scored goals regularly since Blackburn years ago. TP was right to haul him off! #swfc

@samboo20 Defence is getting better, just need a good striker up front. Rhodes is terrible, get rid of him #swfc

@TomTB1995 It's all very well slating the recruitment in the summer, we had big -12 points hanging over us at the time and couldn't spend the money we have in previous seasons. It wasn't an easy job under Monk and it isn't now under Pulis. #swfc

@adam7485 We need a striker announced literally the moment the window opens. The work needs to be done NOW, not when the window open

@ezzytheowl If that performance was away I’d be happy with the point but at home, no chance. We’ve got to show a lot more ambition going forward #SWFC

@hirsty9 Beginning to think no fans might be a blessing for Wednesday supporters right now #swfc

@Swfc_Jack Totally understand people's frustrations on that performance but I don't understand what some of our fans expect? The bloke has been in charge three games, three ******* games. If you didn't want him fair enough, but let's support him ffs #SWFC

@OneSwfc I actually didn’t think our defensive work was awful under Monk. The fact is we need goals. You can’t win games without them #swfc

@stoneyboyblue Jordan Rhodes coming on at half time then getting subbed off with 10 minutes to go is the final nail in his S6 career you’d think.

@Vancouverowls Defensively good. Attack wise we may never score a goal again. We need to improve quickly or we will be going down, the transfer window is make or break for us in my opinion #swfc
