The news comes at the beginning of the international break, allowing Chairman Dejphon Chansiri a little time to have a new man in in time for their next match against Preston a week on Saturday. But who will be the next boss? Here’s a look at some of the possible contenders, with a couple of left field names thrown in for good measure.
5. Danny Cowley
Was in the running for the job before Garry Monk took over but hinted that not having control over transfers put him off. After a chastening experience at Huddersfield his opinion might change. He'll not get a job at a bigger club than Wednesday at this stage Photo: George Wood
6. Sam Allardyce
He won't get it. He shouldn't get it but the Owls are currently in a relegation scrap so who better? Well there are many, but a next manager list is not a next manager list without Allardyce. Photo: Henry Browne
7. Tony Pulis
See the aforementioned Allardyce only this one would make a little more sense. The football wouldn't be great but then it hasn't been for a while, has it? Photo: George Wood
8. Eddie Howe
Has he had enough of a break yet? A couple of years ago there'd have been no chance of getting someone like Howe but his star has dimmed a little recently and Wednesday could just be the challenge his considerable talents need to get back up there again. Would be another very popular choice. Photo: Clive Brunskill
