Goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Saman Ghoddos and Mads Bach Sorensen eased the Bees to victory to end their own mini-slump as they condemned the Owls to a fourth reverse in five games, a result which leaves them still second-from-bottom in the Championship.

"Make no mistake, Brentford are a far, far better side than #SWFC - even with their injuries,” wrote our Wednesday correspondent, Joe Crann.

“It’s just the lack of ability to even look like they stood a chance tonight. It’s been said 101 times, but the next game is huge.”

Owls fans on Twitter were far from impressed by tonight’s showing in west London.

Here’s a snapshot of their post-match views after another miserable night for Neil Thompson’s men.

@Maplo16 Irrespective - we played a good Brentford team tonight. But the pattern is painted and we’ve seen this all before. The club is slipping into League One with a whimper. Some genuinely don’t care and those that do probably aren’t at it.

@Jinja_Owl We’re Sheffield Wednesday . . . we end your bad runs.

@bencooper82 #swfc didn't play too bad for most of the game tonight, but they look completely bereft of ideas in an attacking sense. No width, not taking long shots, no dribbling or beating a man, nothing.

@S6Addict Losing away to Brentford will not decided our fate. However, losing to teams such as Rotherham, Coventry and Birmingham will. Teams who have all beaten us with ease this season. Ultimately, where you finish is determined by how well you do against the teams around you.

@TomFarr5 Is it not time to drop the undroppable Bannan and try something different in that midfield?

@SteffPea What’s happening to us? Seems to be no passion, no plan. All in all, just worrying times ahead. Disappointing to watch/ listen to or talk about. Something needs to change. Any excuse is not good enough anymore. I’ve lost all hope for this season.

@dicko19814eva How bad will it be in league one with Chansiri in charge. Make no mistake this team won’t get us out of it either. Very depressing.

@Wendyowl012 Think the guy at the top needs to come out and tell fans how he is going to get us out of this mess!! We are in deep trouble!

@AndyStevenson20 Another disappointing night for the Owls. Whatever the team, formation or tactics as professionals, individuals and as a team you need to earn the right to stay in the Championship. Show some pride! Too many players not giving their all.
