In total, the Owls boss has made three changes to the side which drew last time out against Queens Park Rangers at Hillsborough in the Sky Bet Championship on October 3.

As well as giant defender Flint, who has joined on loan from Cardiff City, in come Moses Odubajo and Elias Kachunga for Liam Shaw, Tom Lees and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

Shaw and Lees were both injured in the QPR draw, while Dele-Bashiru has been named among the Wednesday substitutes.

On Twitter, our Owls correspondent Joe Crann wrote: “Big shock in today’s #SWFC XI is Massimo Luongo starting at CB - especially with Julian Börner on the bench.

“Elias Kachunga at the top of a midfield three. Aden Flint gets his Owls debut, Jack Marriott on the bench.”

Here’s how Wednesdayites on Twitter have reacted to today’s team news.

@ploehmann That certainly looks like taking the game to Birmingham under the circumstances! I could see Windass and Kachunga interchange a lot/run around Paterson.

Says a lot about Börner's declining stock that Odubajo is preferred over him at CB; we may see him move on in January?

@_ChrisParker Monk’s got serious beef with Börner #swfc

@ChrisBramms Luongo centre half! Blimey, if he's a centre back then Forestieri's a left wing back! Hope it works. In Monk we trust.

@owlsfan83 Luongo centre half?? Surely not. I assume Odubajo will slot in?
